Our Values

Every individual deserves to work, grow, and dream in an environment that acknowledges their worth, respects their journey, and rewards their resilience. At Accessible Employment Services, this isn’t just a belief but our daily practice. Join us in sculpting a world where every individual, irrespective of their abilities, thrives.

Building an inclusive tomorrow

At Accessible Employment Services (AES), our legacy traces back to the resilient spirits of our founders in 1945. Emerging from the aftermath of the Second World War with spinal cord injuries, they championed against the norms, rejecting the confines of institutionalization. Today, Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (SCIO), our parent organization, continues in that spirit, ensuring every individual impacted by spinal cord injuries thrives.

AES is backed by decades of experience supporting individuals living with a spinal cord injury. This legacy has positioned AES as leaders, serving and empowering individuals with all types of accessibility needs – from physical and mental, to short-term to long-term.

Our Cornerstones

Empathy & Kindness: We recognize and understand the unique challenges and aspirations of every individual, treating each with warmth and compassion.

Community & Belonging: Our diverse team, whether in an office or from their homes, are committed to ensuring every member feels a sense of belonging and understanding.

Peer to Peer. Strength to Strength: Life after a spinal cord injury brings relentless challenges and surprises. Shared insights and experiences catalyze transformation, guiding individuals from the early days of injury to rehabilitation and onto realizing personal life aspirations. The power of community and shared experiences are universal.

Our Pledge for Inclusivity

For us, accessibility and equality go beyond mere words. We fully commit to our values in every action, dedicated to forging an inclusive, barrier-free environment. This includes:

  • A staunch commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Proactive engagement with communities and individuals facing historical or current equity barriers.

Land Acknowledgement

Accessible Employment Services acknowledges that we live and work on the traditional territories of many indigenous nations across Turtle Island. We recognize the importance of the land and our treaty agreements – we acknowledge the ancestral and unceded territories of all Inuit, Metis and First Nations peoples.

As our AES community encompasses many geographies, we ask that everyone take a few moments of their day to find out which unceded or treaty territories you may live and work on.
